In the twenty-first century, workers will need to be good creative thinkers and good critical thinkers. Having students create designs like the ones above and having them work with Pattern Blocks, in general, fosters these two skills.
I have been a math teacher at Randolph High School in New Jersey since September 2008. My previous high school teaching positions include Kearny High School, Highland Park High School, and Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School.
I have a B.A. in Mathematics and Computer Science from Rhode Island College, an M.A. in Mathematics Education from New Jersey City University (NJCU), and am currently a doctoral student in Mathematics Education at the Rutgers University Graduate School of Education. In addition to my work in Randolph, I have been an adjunct professor at NJCU since 2005.
